How to Set Up an eSIM on iPhone and Android (Step by Step)
Before you start
Make sure your phone is eSIM-compatible and carrier-unlocked. You will need a Wi-Fi connection to download the eSIM profile. Have the QR code from your eSIM provider ready (sent by email after purchase).
How to install an eSIM on iPhone
- Open Settings on your iPhone.
- Tap Mobile Service (or Cellular in the USA).
- Tap Add eSIM or Add Mobile Plan.
- Select Use QR Code and scan the QR code from your provider.
- Tap Continue and follow the prompts to label your new plan (e.g. "Sweden Trip").
- Choose whether to use the eSIM for data immediately or only when you arrive at your destination.
On iPhone 14 and later, you can also enter the activation code manually if you cannot scan the QR code.
How to install an eSIM on Android (Samsung, Google Pixel)
- Open Settings and go to Connections (Samsung) or Network & Internet (Pixel).
- Tap SIM Manager or SIMs.
- Select Add eSIM or Download a SIM.
- Scan the QR code or enter the activation code manually.
- Follow the prompts to complete the installation.
Managing multiple eSIM profiles
Once installed, your eSIM profiles stay on your device. You can switch between them in Settings without downloading anything again. This is perfect for frequent travelers to Sweden, Norway, or Finland — install the eSIM once, activate it on each trip.
Tips for smooth installation
- Install your eSIM at home before your trip — airport Wi-Fi can be unreliable.
- Set your travel eSIM as the "data" line before you land.
- Keep your home SIM active for calls and SMS — only route mobile data through the eSIM.
- If your eSIM fails to install, contact your provider's support immediately — most offer 24/7 chat support.
